Veteran Property Tax Exemption — Connecticut

Connecticut added a property-tax exemption built for exactly one group — veterans with a 100% permanent-and-total service-connected rating — under Public Act 24-46, on top of the state's long-standing tiered veteran exemptions.

Who qualifies
Veterans whom the VA has classified as having a 100% service-connected permanent and total disability rating (new exemption, PA 24-46); Connecticut also runs older, lower-value exemptions for wartime service, disability ratings, and surviving spouses
Benefit
The new P&T exemption exempts the property with the state reimbursing municipalities — the older exemptions are fixed-dollar amounts applied against assessed value. Confirm the dollar effect with your town assessor
How to apply
File with your town assessor (OPM Form D-2 for the 100% P&T exemption) with VA documentation; most towns require filing by the February 1 assessment date
Watch out
Some exemptions require annual renewal — the 100% P&T exemption has its own renewal rules, so ask your assessor what re-filing it needs

Every one of these programs hinges on a VA service-connected rating. If you have not filed a claim, that is the starting point — a free, VA-accredited VSO (DAV, American Legion, VFW) will file it for you at no cost. A higher rating unlocks not just property-tax relief but healthcare, income benefits, and — for business owners — SDVOSB contracting eligibility.
