Veteran Property Tax Exemption — Oregon

Oregon's disabled-veteran exemption starts at 40% service connection and adjusts every year: for the current year it exempts $27,092 of your homestead's assessed value — $32,512 if you qualify for the higher tier — with a 3% annual increase built in.

Who qualifies
Veterans certified by the VA (or a branch of the armed forces) as 40% or more disabled from service connection — or certified by a licensed physician as 40%+ disabled in specified situations. Active-duty members, including Guard and Reserve, may qualify in some cases. Surviving spouses and registered domestic partners continue to qualify
Benefit
Exemption of $27,092 of the homestead's assessed value ($32,512 for qualifying veterans who meet the age/benefit criteria), increasing 3% each year — income limits apply to the program, so read the ODVA/county instructions
How to apply
File the Disabled Veteran or Surviving Spouse Property Tax Exemption application (Oregon DOR form 310-676) with your county assessor — annually by April 1
Watch out
The exemption rides on assessed value, and Oregon's Measure 50 limits assessed-value growth — the benefit is stable year over year; re-file if your rating or residence changes

Every one of these programs hinges on a VA service-connected rating. If you have not filed a claim, that is the starting point — a free, VA-accredited VSO (DAV, American Legion, VFW) will file it for you at no cost. A higher rating unlocks not just property-tax relief but healthcare, income benefits, and — for business owners — SDVOSB contracting eligibility.
